Peter Molyneux Admits to Being Terrible Programmer at PAX Keynote
During this morning’s PAX Prime keynote, Peter Molyneux admitted to being a terrible programmer.
“I don’t really know what I’m doing,” said Molyneux. “I just leave extensive comments in the code to indicate what it’s supposed to do and somebody else makes it work.”
The crowd was astonished to learn that most of the industry veteran’s work on the now-classic Black and White games was in the form of code comments. “I didn’t even really talk to the programmers. All communication was done in the comments I left in the code.” He continued to astonish with this gem, “I didn’t actually write any code for Fable. I just left comments about what the code was supposed to do in place of actual code.”
While demoing his new game Godus, he mentioned starting a Kickstarter to fund the development of a new code commenting system to allow him to more efficiently tell other programmers what to do. He is expecting great success.
